AMIDON G Amidon, GAmidon@aol.com May 11, 1998
I am interested in finding out more about Chauncey and Amanda J. Amidon
(maiden name Amidon). Amanda Amidon was the mother of James Amidon, a long
time resident of Seneca Falls, NY. It appears the Chauncey Amidon died in the
1860's and Amanda married Henry Larzelere in in Seneca Falls on 1/13/1864.
1. Chauncey Amidon (probably Nathaniel, Moses, Henry, Henry, Phillip
Amidown, Roger Amadowne) was born 1818 in NY and died Abt. 1863. He married
Amanda J. Amidon Abt. 1849
The parents of Chauncey Amidon are not known with certainty. It is most
likely that he was born in central New York. Most, but not all, of his
children's Census records indicate that he was born in NY. A logical guess is
that he was born and raised in Onondaga County though other areas of NY were
populated with Amidons in the 1830's. He married Amanda Amidon (maiden name
Amidon), who is also likely from the same area. Chauncey Amidon has been
located in the 1850 Federal Census living in Mentz, Cayuga Co (p 129). It
indicates that he is 32 years old, a farmer and born in NY. His wife is
Amanda, age 20 born in NY. Mary Amidon, age 1 (first child) and Hellen age 15
(probably Amanda's sister) lived with them.
The parents of Amanda Amidon are not yet known. It is known that Euphrasia
Rich Amidon (married Samuel Kingsley) and Helen Amidon (b abt 1835 and married
to a Houch) were sisters. Caleb and Henry G Amidon are recorded in the 1840
census has having 3 daughtors of approximately the right age. It is therefore
possible that either Caleb (Onondaga, Onondaga Co) or Henry G. (Onondaga,
Onondaga Co) are the father of Amanda. Cheney Amidon (Onondaga, Onondaga Co)
is also a possibility with three daughtors age 15-20 and 1 age less than 5.

Joseph is our branch of the family. He came from Boston Mass to South
Onondaga on horseback, cleared a piece of land and built a log cabin. he then
