I am searching for information on Barnabas J. Casterline or his family.
Barnabas was married to a Maria DuBois. At least two of their children
(John and James) were born in Cayuga County according to the Civil war

Minnesota about 1853. It is not known when Barnabas arrived in Cayuga
County or if their other two children (Elizabeth and Sarah) were born in
Cayuga County. Barnabas may have moved to Cayuga or Seneca County from
Orange County as there is a record of land purchase in Orange County by a
Barnabas Casterlin in 1798. This Barnabas may have been father of Barnabas
J. Casterline.

COVERT Byron Bray, byron.bray@cmug.com April 11, 1999
Seeking information on the ancestors, descendants and families of PHEBE
COVERT. She lived in Seneca County (then Cayuga County) from around 1790
until around 1833, marrying JOHN S. GRANT (b. 1788, NY). They both lived
in or around this area until around 1835, when they moved to Michigan.
They had five surviving children: Susannah Grant (m. Jacob BOICE, lived
in Albany, N.Y. and/or New York City, N.Y.), Abram I. Grant (born c.
1811, in Seneca County, New York - m. Jane HARRIS - died 5 March, 1902,
Adrian, MI), John Covert Grant (born c. 1819, probably in New York - m.
Wealthy PALMER - died 27 March, 1909, Dover, MI), Mary (Grant) FLAGLER
(married William W. Flagler and moved to Springfield, Illinois), and
Darius Simpson Grant (b. 1830 - m. Minerva BOVEE - d. 1864, Dimondale,
Eaton County, Michigan).
Abram Grant may have attended a seminary college in the Ovid area. Around
1835, Abram journeyed to Lenawee County, Michigan and was granted land
there under the Land Grant Act of 1820. He then returned to Ovid and
collected his parents and siblings and moved to Lenawee County. Susannah
Grant appears to have already married Jacob Boice and to have remained in
New York, and so did not make this move.
I have a great deal of information on their descendants and will be happy
to share it.

Old papers state that Sally at age of 14 served 3 years to learn the
weavers trade, then married George. They are suppose to have lived a
number of years in Seneca County, in what was called the Covert
Settlement. It was here that Hiram was born in 1826. In 1835 they moved
to the wilderness of Michigan and they took up a government claim of 160
acres.

CRAWFORD John McDonald, jmcd@oro.net February 18, 1998
I am searching for information about Calvin CRAWFORD who lived in Seneca
County in the early 1800's. He married Mary TROWBRIDGE and later moved
to Washington County, OH and then to Wood (later Wirt) County, VA/WV. He
died there in 1856.
While in Seneca County, I believe he lived in or near Ovid. Earlier, he
probably lived in Washington County, NY.

parents, but any information would be helpful.
CRAWFORD Earl P. Otto, EPOTTO@prodigy.net May 5, 1998
I find Calvin Crawford in the 1810 US Census for Seneca Co. He would have
been about 23 years old and his wife Mary Trowbridge a few years younger.
They have no children so I suspect they had just married (by 1820 they had
9). I have no marriage date or parentage for Calvin (plenty of ancestors for
Mary). My quest however is primarily for Florilla Crawford who is either
Calvin's sister or niece. I and my daughter have been pursueing this
aggressively fo several years unsuccessfully but there has to be an answer
somewhere. Calvin was a religious man (Baptist in later years) so if there
are church records he might be there. Any help or ideas will be greatly
appreciated.
