LEONARD Chris Leonard, Tadzio69@aol.com August 2, 1998, updated April 30, 2000
update to query for JAMES H. LEONARD: Wife's name was Mary (Polly) Van
Tassel
my great great great grandfather James H. Leonard was born in 1797 in delaware
county and moved with his wife Mary V. (called Polly) to seneca county some
time before my great great grandfather DeWitt Clinton Leonard was born in
1817. James's next 2 children were also born in seneca co, Eliza Jane (m.
Silas Sawyer) in 1821 and Henry B. (?Benjamin?) in 1823. he family moved to
newfane in niagara county in 1829. other children were named Anna Amy (m. John
Lewis), Rosanna V. (m. George Spencer), Mariah M. (m. Nathan Peck) and John V.
(m. Lorinda Peck.)
i am not sure of James's father's name, but the names James, Henry, Benjamin
and John seem to recur for males in the family. they may have come from new
jersey (Polly was born there) or alternatively may have emigrated from MA
where there were quite a few Leonards. Or they may have emigrated directly
from england. i have not been able to trace back further than James so far.
if you have any info on any of these individuals, or have any ideas about how
i could proceed in investigating the resources in seneca county to try to find
out the parents or possibly siblings of James H., please drop me a line. thank
you!

ultimately had 10 children and settled in Seneca Falls/Waterloo area.Their son
Patrick Joseph McNANEY b.1871, & Catherine E. BISHOP b.1841, m. 1852 in Seneca
Falls and had 11 children. Their son Thomas Joseph MCNANEY b1871, m.1899 in
Seneca Falls to Mary Agnes FLAHERTY,b.1878. Mary Agnes was 6th of 8 children
born to William FLAHERTY, b.1843 in Ireland,(came to US as young child) and Mary
GARGAN,b about1840 in Ireland, m. 1867 in Seneca Falls/Waterloo.
I have the descendants of the above fairly well identified and am working on
documentation. I am especially interested in finding sources to tell me
exactly when the early ancestors came to US, from where in Ireland they came
and what ports they arrived/departed from. Family oral tradition states they
came over to escape the potato famine, of course, but no one thought to ask
how they got here!
Any help gratefully appreciated and I will gladly share my records.

O'DELL J. E.Killick February 20, 1998
Who are parents of Archibald O'DELL? He and his family were enumerated in
Seneca Falls, Seneca County, NY, in 1850 Federal Census. Archibald was age 49
and a brickmaker. His wife is Eliza, age 47; son Austin, age 18, a boatman;
dau. Dorcas age 11; dau. Lydia age 7. Clara Brewster, dau. of Samuel and
Dorcas (Nickerson) Brewster/Bruster, married 1st Archibald McBRIDE, probably
of Orange County, NY. After his death, about 1810?, she married Richard
O'DELL, perhaps the same who is enumerated in Dutchess County, NY, in the 1810
Census. I believe that it is possible that Archibald O'DELL is Clara's son
with Archibald McBRIDE who then assumed his step-father's surname, O'DELL.
Samuel and Dorcas (Nickerson) Brewster/Bruster removed from Dutchess County,
NY, to Seneca County by 1810. Can anyone help me with this puzzle? Thank

PRINDLE Horace Prindle, hprindle@gis.net Oct. 30, 1998 I am trying to find the parents of Enos Prindle and have seen a census of an Enos Prindle in OVID in 1810. There is a possibility that his fathers name was David or Samuel, but I have no solid links to reach this conclusion. He was born in 1784 and died inRedford Michigan in 1855. He had property in Wayne, Steuben cty from 1819 to 1834 when he and his family moved to Michigan. He was married to Eleanor Miller and possibly Polly Odle. Then again this may have been another Enos Prindle.
